Do you know of someone who has made a valuable and noteworthy contribution to the development and advancement of agricultural societies in Alberta?

The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies invites agricultural societies to nominate a member of their association for their outstanding contribution to the development and advancement of agricultural societies in Alberta. Two members will be awarded the Honorary Life Memberships.

This prestigious award recognizes outstanding volunteers for their dedication to local, regional and provincial levels of agriculture.

The nominating agricultural society will be notified if their nominee is chosen and it is the nominating society’s responsibility to ensure the recipient is in attendance to accept the award. AAAS will provide two complimentary dinner tickets for the recipient and one guest. All other ticket requirements must be purchased in advance.



The Winners of the 2021 Honour Roll

Nestor Saskiw- Myrnam & District Agricultural Society
Nestor has been on the board of directors for 30+years Since -1988-
-Nestor has been the parade marshal for 20+ years 1999-2019
-During our years of bull sales and rodeos, board member Nestor was the person that made the trips for supplies, prizes, scales, panels, etc
-Nestor is the go to person for anyone needing access to the arena as he lives the closest. This includes health inspector, safety inspections, 4-H clubs, organizations hosting meetings, craft show setup volunteer, emergency contact for alarm system or any other emergency, etc
-Nestor is the organizer and contact for the arena interior sign rental customers
-Nestor always gladly gets quotes and assists with renovations and repairs
-Nestor volunteers his time and fuel to pick up propane for the zamboni
-He gladly makes trips to the larger centers to pick up needed groceries, barbeque or anything required.


Nestor is one of the volunteers that attends the regional meetings and reports back to the board and membership. No specific dates available that we can remember for sure, just throughout his years volunteering
-He represents our ag society by attending the ag events in the neighboring communities.

Nestor is both a long time member and continues to hold position of secretary for the Myrnam Senior Citizens Center
-Nestor is an Elk member for 30+ years and has been secretary for 15+ years and counting
-He is again the go to person for access into the Myrnam Elks Hall.
-Nestor was the Chair of the Two Hills and Area Crime Watch for 10 years
-He was also a Board member on the provincial Students Finance Board for 6 years
-Nestor is the Chair of the Pastoral Charge for the Two Hills United Church and was a member of the Beauvallon United Church until it closed down
-Nestor is a long time Board member of the Myrnam Curling Club and is again the local contact for entry into the curling rink.

-As a retired school principal, he continues to be a voice within all the organizations for support of the Myrnam School whether it be for awards, educational events and allowing the school use of any of the facilities.

He is clearly a very valuable community supporter and has participated and continues to participate in any and all community events, fundraisers and community improvements.


Gladys Menzak  – Ranfurly Ag Society

Ag Society Contributions

a member of the Ranfurly and District Agricultural Society for the last 40 years.

– has held the secretary position and director positions several times
– has assisted with the planning of the annual Ranfurly Fair for the past 40 years

– started the Ranfurly Play-daze Group in 1980, provided craft supplies, organized and co-ordinated

activities, field trips and Christmas concerts, including writing the concert play. This group is still

providing and organizing activities for local children today


– started with the Birch Lake Bit ‘n Spurs Club in 1985
– Assistant and Project Leader as well as Key Leader

A L Horton Elementary School

(is the school librarian but volunteers as well)

– co-ordinated, planned and facilitated school curling program for the past five years



– was a minor hockey team manager for four years

– co-ordinated parent volunteers for the arena kitchen for four years


Other volunteering

– volunteers at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church when they need her

– served as secretary on the Innisfree Home and School Council
