We would like to share an update on the I’m OK Farm Safety Show. The program is currently active and in development as we work to repackage, enhance, and build on the program’s existing resources and experience.
The Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies is committed to delivering impactful and engaging farm safety education, and this development phase will allow us to continue shaping the program to create an even greater impact in Alberta’s communities.
While the program is currently being developed and updated, we are actively working behind the scenes to prepare for its next phase. What is Safety Day?
Safety Day is a hands-on, community-based event that teaches children how to recognize hazards and avoid injury — on the farm, at home, and in daily life. The Safety Day format lets kids enjoy the atmosphere of a fun, child-focused event while learning real safety and health skills.
AAAS's library of interactive teaching displays allows each Safety Day to be tailored to the issues that matter most in your community. Every event is fully scalable — communities can offer as many stations as they have volunteers to staff. Utilizing our state of the art video wall we are able to bring the displays to life on the “big screen” as well as presenting the I’m Ok interactive Safety Shows.
Primary audience: children ages 8–13, with curriculum also available for younger children (4–7) and family/whole-audience formats.
How the day works
- Children rotate in small groups through a series of stations, spending roughly 15–20 minutes at each (shorter "mini-session" formats are also available for fair/expo-style events).
- Each station is led by a local volunteer or subject-matter expert (firefighter, paramedic, farmer, agronomist, nurse, RCMP/police, etc.) and is interactive and hands-on rather than lecture-style.
- The video wall and "I'm OK" shows run throughout the day as an anchor activity and gathering point between rotations.
- Topics are chosen by the host community based on local risks — common choices include grain bin/auger safety, animal handling, ATV and equipment safety, sun and water safety, fire safety, electrical/PTO safety, road and rail safety, and internet/personal safety.
What AAAS provides
- Video wall and choice of 1–3 "I'm OK" shows
- A trained Safety Day host/presenter to emcee and run the event
- Access to the AAAS interactive safety display library
- Access to Progressive Agriculture Foundation's 30+ topic curriculum and planning resources
- Guidance on fundraising within the host community
- Advanced planning support (timeline, station selection, layout, volunteer scheduling)
- A single point of contact and playbook so every community isn't starting from scratch

AAAS acts as the central hub for Alberta, bringing the equipment, curriculum, and event expertise so no community has to build a Safety Day program from zero. Communities bring local knowledge, volunteers, and a venue. Together, that turns a single well-resourced program into safety education that reaches kids across the province.
- Community reaches out to AAAS to express interest
- Initial planning call — confirm date, venue, target number of kids, and topic priorities
- AAAS shares planning resources, fundraising tips, and station/curriculum options
- Community recruits volunteers and finalizes venue logistics
- AAAS delivers video wall, shows, presenter, and display library on event day
- Post-event debrief and feedback to improve future events
